RC Airplane RTF: Which One is Right for You?

Which ARF is Right for YouRC flying is catching up with the youth fast. The starting point is RC flying simulators followed by the RC airplane RTF. A RTF or ‘Ready to Fly’ plane requires a couple of fixtures and the plane is ready to fly. They are mostly light weight, has less speed and it is very easy to maneuver them. There are numerous RC airplane RTF available nowadays. Here we will check out some of them.

The P-51D Mustang BL BNF by ParkZone is one of the most popular RTF model. The features include Dual aileron servos for precise control and the aircraft is made of durable and lightweight Z-Foam™. This plane flies using a DSM2 aircraft transmitter. If you want to begin flying a RC plane this aircraft is a good choice. The plane is good to take part in RTF air shows and the results have mostly been quite encouraging. The overall length of the airplane is 850mm and a flying weight of 25 oz. Beginners have appreciated the flying qualities of this plane and it is no wonder that the ParkZone P-51D Mustang BL BNF rules the charts of RC airplane RTF.

The list of RC airplane RTF is simply endless. Here we have tried to highlight some of the more popular models of ‘Ready to Fly’ planes from different manufacturers. The next one in the list today is the P-51B Mustang 32e ARF by E-flite. This model has fully-sheeted wings and horizontal stab that makes it an amazing experience to fly this aircraft. This model has got sleek looks. The magnetic belly scoop is designed to conceal wing bolts. The aircraft also has flush-mount painted fiberglass cowl and Airfoil-shaped tail surfaces that gives it a great finish. This model is a WW11 model that was used by the allies as their first true bombing aircraft. The original P-51B Mustang 32e ARF was powered by a Rolls-Royce Merlin engine that gave it awesome power and speed. This model is an exact replica of the plane that was used many years ago during the war.

Another RC airplane RTF that is going to hit the market soon is the UMX Beast BNF by E-flite. This one is cheaper than the lot but boasts of features compared with RFT airplanes that are 15-20% high on the price. The UMX Beast BNF by E-flite is definitely worth a try once it is launched. The aircraft will be completely flight ready and can be flown with any DSM2 aircraft transmitter with dual rates and expo. This plane is small enough to be flown in the backyard if the pilot has good experience in flying in a small area. However if you are a beginner it is suggested that you fly the aircraft in a larger space. The aircraft is designed by Quique Somenzini and it is powerful enough to excite even an experienced pilot. The overall length of the aircraft is 15.7 in and flying weight is only 2.36 oz. Now that is quite a lightweight aircraft and I am sure that you will have great fun flying it. Do not forget to buy the DSM2 transmitter because that is not supplied with the aircraft.

So if you are wondering which models to buy, let me tell you that the list has just begun. There are numerous other RC airplane RTF models and I will touch upon them shortly. Another model that I really like is the Ultra-Micro ParkZone T-28 Trojan BNF. Just like its bigger version, the Ultra-Micro T-28 has plenty of power for sport aerobatics. You will definitely enjoy flying this model because of its light weight, small size and good power. This model is ideal for a beginner who wants to learn the tricks of flying a RC airplane. The model comes as a completely assembled kit with Spektrum AR6400 6-Channel DSM2 Receiver/ESC/Servos Unit. This model is recommended for anyone more than 14 years of age and intermediate flying experience.

The ParkZone Radian RTF is another RC airplane RTF that requires a mention. This one comes with a Spektrum™ DX5e 5-channel full range 2.4GHz DSM2™ radio system that eliminates interference and the need for frequency control. This feature is not available in many RTF models so I would not hesitate to say that this model is one of the more advanced RTF models. This RC airplane RTF has a large 2-meter wingspan that makes the Radian easy to see and provides an excellent lift-to-drag ratio. This model is one of the better and more advanced among different RC airplane RTF. So, if you are planning a buy then this model should definitely deserve a look. Some of the other features of this model include the throttle, rudder and elevator that provide true 3-channel flight and maneuverability and E-flite® Pro 30A Brushless ESC with Switch-Mode BEC for maximum performance.

I have covered quite a few RC airplane RTF here but the numbers simply refuse to end. There are many different models offered by the manufacturers mentioned here. If you are planning to start off with RC flying, go through the specifications of each of the models mentioned here and make a wise decision. Your decision should be guided by the price that you are ready to pay and the performance that you expect from your RC airplane RTF.
